    Description

    These are 3 White Glass Tobacco Jars with Pewter Lids. All 3 measure 4 3/4 without covers, 7 inches tall with the covers on, and 4 inches across bottom. They are all embossed on the bottom "LES ETAINS DE PARIS {THE TINS OF PARIS}, MADE IN FRANCE". "1 reads BENZ 1895, 1 reads GOVERNESS CART 1900, the last one reads STANHOPE PHAETON 1900".
    France is known for its historical attachment to smoking as far back as Kings using snuff, to soldiers smoking to relieve stress during the World Wars.  France’s early history of tobacco growing
    dates back to 1556
    – when tobacco was introduced to France as an herbal cure for ailments in peasants.  It was of particular importance for the poor of the country who used it as a
    hunger suppressant
    (this was also the reason for the popularity of tea in Europe).
