Description
When WWII began in 1939 the best anti-tank weapon was another tank and the second-best was an anti-tank gun. During the Russian campaign, theWehrmacht
faced large numbers of Russian tanks and individual anti-tank weapons, like the
Panzerfaust
(literally, tank fist) were developed, giving the Germans another option.
This is the Individual Tank Destruction Badge. It was established in 1942 as an award for the single-handed destruction of an enemy tank. It is a sew-on silver-bullion badge with field-gray backing and a black metal tank. This is a late-war version of the badge, a reproduction.
The tank (a Mark IV) measures 43 mm end-to-end and the badge measures 88 mm x 33 mm. It is quite heavy - 3 oz / 9 grams and very well made.
It is worn on the upper-right arm of the tunic.
