The coins have the shape of a circle, with a protruding edging around the circumference on the obverse and reverse sides. The side surface of the coins is corrugated.

at the top - a relief image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and an inscription around the circle: REPUBLIC OF BELARUS; in the center of the coins, against the background of the navigational sea chart, there is a stylized image of a wind rose (on the silver one, with a printed hologram); below, the denomination is 20 RUBLES (on silver) and 1 RUBEL (on copper-nickel), to the left of it is the year of minting (on the right of the silver is the assay of the alloy and the trade mark of the Mint of Poland).
